What is Woods Gravity Colon Hydrotherapy?

The method we use at Flora & Co Wellness is the Woods Gravity closed system. Using the natural flow of gravity to introduce water into the body assisting the body’s natural peristaltic motion to release waste.

This is the most effective way for releasing toxic matter while also strengthening the colon. Woods Gravity has a reputation for being the most comfortable and effective method possible.

When accumulated waste and toxic matter are removed from your colon the overall bodily function significantly improves with the ability to heal. Bowel health is essential for achieving and maintaining optimal health and all-round improved wellbeing.

The Woods Gravity method allows the body to better absorb and digest vital nutrients and re-tone the colon, eliminate parasites and worms, candida, hard stools, gas and improve bowel function.

The colon is around 5 feet long and 3 inches in diameter. It can roughly hold anywhere between 5 to 8 kilograms of waste, making it pivotal to cleanse.

Why choose Woods Gravity?

Using the natural flow of gravity to introduce water into the body, the therapist can exercise the body’s natural muscular rhythm to release waste. It is not a machine forcing water pressure and it is gentle on the body. A trained colon hydrotherapist will be with you throughout the entire session, guiding you with the feedback necessary to create a personalised session based on what is being released from your body.

What are the benefits of a colonic?

The colon is a pathway for the body to release toxins. Cleaning the colon will eliminate the weight of retained waste and the pressure of built-up gas and toxins. Colon cleansing can help improve your body’s overall health and wellness and can reduce the risk of colon cancer. Some of the other benefits include improving the effectiveness of the digestive system, maintaining regular bowel movement and preventing constipation, increased energy, increasing the body’s absorption of vitamins and nutrients, improved concentration, assisted weight loss, increased fertility, maintaining PH balance in the bloodstream, improved skin, improved colon muscle tone and shape, improved concentration, improved mental clarity and brain fog, reduced cravings, improved immunity and the ability to heal.

What is auto intoxication?

Auto intoxication is a state of being poisoned by toxic substances produced within the body and decaying matter in the colon.

The toxins released by the decay enter the bloodstream and travel to all parts of the body. Every cell in the body is therefore affected and this can result in many forms of sickness. Because it weakens the entire system, auto-intoxication can be a leading factor for most diseases.

Common symptoms of auto intoxication are;

  • Foul-smelling stools

  • Digestive problems

  • Poor appetite

  • Allergy and sinus problems

  • Swelling in the legs

  • Poor complexion

  • Frequent congestion

  • Food allergies or intolerance

  • Bad breath

  • Body odour

  • Smelly feet

  • Ulcers

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • Haemorrhoids

What preparation is required before my colonic?

  • Avoid drinking any beverages (including water) 1 hour prior to your session so that you don’t have a full bladder.

  • Avoid eating 2 hours prior to your session so you do not overload the digestive tract.

  • Keep hydrated in the days prior to your session. This will improve the functioning of the colon and assist with removal of any impacted waste matter.

  • Avoid carbonated beverages such as kombucha and soft drinks, which can produce gas in the intestinal tract, causing potential discomfort during your session.

  • Include plant-based foods in your diet. Fruits and vegetables are high in fiber and water, both of which are necessary for a healthy colon.

What should I wear?

We recommend wearing something comfortable from the waist down. Pants, shorts and a top are preferable as you will remove everything from the waist down for your treatment and a towel will be used to cover your bottom half.

Does a Colonic hurt?

Colonics should not be painful, however depending on your toxicity and the level of compaction in your colon, your first session may be a bit uncomfortable as all the toxins are stirred up to be released. Some clients experience nausea which goes away immediately after the toxicity is flushed from the body. Others experience mild to moderate cramping (similar to a dull period pain or diarrhoea) which again goes away once the body releases the toxicity. After your first session you should feel lighter, cleaner and refreshed. If you experience any pain you will have a trained colon therapist with you and treatment can stop at any time.

Are colonics safe?

Yes. Colon hydrotherapy is one of the most gentle forms of body therapies and therefore is extremely safe.

Our staff at Flora & Co Wellness are professionally trained and certified.  The room is thoroughly cleaned after every client, fresh linen is put on the bed and all equipment is cleaned. Our clinic is also registered with the local council and inspections are conducted every 12 months under strict guidelines.

Like with any procedure or treatment you receive, there will always be risks involved. It is important you do your own research about colonics and the clinic you are visiting prior to getting a colonic. Your safety is priority to us and if at any time you feel uncomfortable treatment can stop at any given time.

What are the contraindications?

A contraindication is a symptom or condition that makes it advisable to not use a particular treatment or therapy. If you think you might have any of the below contraindications, please call us directly (insert number) to discuss further in detail.

What should I do after my colonic?

You can go back to everyday life after a session. Some clients go to the gym, work or play sports. We do recommend that if it is your first colonic to relax after the session due to the large release of toxins. You might find you need to go to the toilet more frequently than often with loose stools. Please wait one hour after treatment before eating.

How frequently should I have a colonic?

This is based on individual goals. When you have your first session your colon therapist will guide you and tell you more about this in detail. It is safe to have colonics frequently and even a few days apart for best results. Your therapist will not make recommendations until after your session because they need to see what is going on internally before providing a qualified suggestion.

Do colonics help with losing weight?

Yes, you can lose weight after a colonic due to the colon holding so much waste and you will feel much flatter in the mid-section, however, we do not recommend colonics purely for weight loss. We treat clients from a holistic perspective and will give you recommendations on healthy lifestyle support, nutritional advice and goal setting. We believe that pairing healthy lifestyle choices with colonics will give you optimal results and your body the ability to heal.

Can I have a colonic with my menstrual cycle?

Yes, you can. This is a great time for a colonic as your body is already detoxing and cleansing through your monthly cycle. You may be feeling tired, bloated or irritable and a colonic may help relieve symptoms. Please ensure you are using a feminine hygiene product such as a tampon, pad or menstrual cup.

Can males have colonics?

Males can definitely have colonics. All males are welcome at Flora & Co Wellness and we encourage them to come in and feel comfortable.

Will a colonic wash away the good gut bacteria?

Cleansing the colon and a healthy microbiome are the keys to maintaining optimal vitality. Good and bad bacteria are both removed throughout the course of a session, however the balance of both is essential in your bowel for optimal gut health. If you have an overload of pathogens, yeasts, bacteria and parasites in your colon, it is better to remove them with the toxicity and repopulate the colon with good bacteria using a strong probiotic. It is always recommended to take a probiotic after your colon hydrotherapy sessions which we will give you once the session is over. We will also give you a list of foods to help restore the gut with good bacteria.

Does having colonics make your bowel lazy?

No, it does not, colonics increase colon muscle tone and peristalsis. Colonics can be done as regularly as you like. They are a great way to maintain optimal health.

Can I have a colonic during pregnancy?

If you are pregnant, please call us directly (insert number) to discuss this in more detail.

Do I still need a colonic if I do a poo every day?

The answer to this question is YES! Even if you go to the toilet 2/3 times a day regularly, you are still exposed to high levels of toxicity in our environment from the use of chemicals in our home, foods and other products, therefore affecting us mentally and physically.

Colonics can help to release stored trauma and emotions in the body such as grief, guilt, anxiety and depression. Feeling stressed? Your Colon is holding onto all these emotions.

Are laxatives effective?

Laxatives are not fixing the root problem to what is happening. Factors that contribute to constipation are dehydration and laxatives are essentially stripping the body from water and the cycle of constipation continues. Side effects of laxatives are bloating, wind, tummy cramps and dehydration. Constipation is one of the main reasons people have colon hydrotherapy. Colonics are far more effective than a laxative. Laxatives can cause more harm to the body.

How long will a session take?

Please allow 60 minutes for a full treatment and any new clients to arrive 15 minutes before treatment.
